Mark Dever
Mark E. Dever (born August 28, 1960) is a theologian and the senior pastor of Capitol Hill Baptist Church in Washington, D.C. since 1994, and president emeritus of 9Marks, the influential ministry he founded in 1998. Holding an M.Div. from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, a Th.M. from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, and a Ph.D. in Ecclesiastical History from Cambridge University, Dever brings scholarly depth to pastoral ministry.
Through 9Marks, Dever has reshaped evangelical church practice by articulating nine marks of a healthy church: expositional preaching, biblical theology, gospel-centered understanding, regenerate membership, biblical church discipline, biblical evangelism, biblical leadership, biblical church membership, and passionate prayer. His work has profoundly influenced how evangelicals understand church health, polity, and leadership, making him one of the most significant voices in contemporary evangelical ecclesiology.
