Ed Welch

Counselor & CCEF Faculty

Ed Welch is a faculty member and counselor at the Christian Counseling and Educational Foundation (CCEF) where he has served since 1981, bringing three decades of counseling experience to his teaching and writing. With a doctor of philosophy in counseling (neuropsychology) from the University of Utah and a master of divinity from Biblical Theological Seminary, Welch holds licensure as a psychologist and maintains deep roots in local church ministry.

As a council member of the Biblical Counseling Coalition, Welch has authored numerous influential books addressing addiction, depression, anxiety, shame, and anger from a biblical perspective, including When People Are Big and God Is Small, Addictions: A Banquet in the Grave, and Shame Interrupted. His approach represents biblical counseling's evolution toward greater pastoral sensitivity and psychological sophistication, helping evangelicals see how Scripture speaks to complex human struggles with both truth and compassion.
