David VanDrunen

Reformed Ethicist & Theologian

David VanDrunen is the Robert B. Strimple Professor of Systematic Theology and Christian Ethics at Westminster Seminary California, where he has taught since 2001. He is an ordained minister in the Orthodox Presbyterian Church and holds both a PhD in religious ethics from Northwestern and a JD from Loyola University Chicago.

VanDrunen is the leading contemporary advocate of a Reformed two-kingdoms theology—the view that the redemptive kingdom of Christ (the church) and the common kingdom of God's providential rule over creation operate by distinct norms and ends. His work has reshaped Reformed conversations about politics, vocation, natural law, and the role of the church in public life.
